Point in the time-line taken: The end of Fray
Character History:
Haddyn. A futuristic city divided into several districts for the rich and poor. And Melaka Fray is definitely one of the latter. A runner for the crime leader, Gunther, Melaka makes a living out of stealing from the rich and giving to Gunther. Throughout her life, she has looked out for herself and sometimes, the people in her district. It was the right kind of life for her with the right kind of excitement.
Except she is told by a demon that she is the Slayer, and she is destined to save the world from vampires. Struggling with her new identity and her old one, Melaka tries to rise to the challenge despite the fact that she is fearful of vampires. With guts to spare, Melaka isn't afraid of a challenge or getting her hands dirty. Even when she's at her lowest, she keeps on trooping.
Motivation Turning her twin brother human again. Becoming a real slayer.
Canon Personality:
Cynical and caustic, Melaka seems like the kind of person who doesn't give a damn about anyone else. She couldn't care about right or wrong, or the fate of the world. In fact, looking at Urkroon, she didn't even want to believe he was real. Melaka always chose her own way in life and wasn't ready to let destiny choose it for her. However, when Lurks started creeping out of the shadows and into her life, she started listening to Urkronn, learning about the Legacy of the Slayer. With deep self-esteem issues over the loss of her twin brother, Melaka struggles with her sister and her own way of life. Fiercely independent and strong-willed, if she was going to be a Slayer, she would do it her way and damn everyone else.
Not to say Melaka doesn't care, she is fond of children and would start bar fights on their behalf. She prefers punching her problems rather than talking them over. When her brother shows up alive and the vampire responsible for the attacks on people, Melaka almost collapses, but manages to pick herself up again. Resourceful and willing to punch through a monster's gut from the inside, she sticks to her will and pays her dues. Towards the end, despite her brother or any forces against her, Melaka takes a stand and dares them to crumble her world.
Blank Personality:
Most of Melaka's issues stem from the death of her twin brother, but most of her characteristics come from her inner nature. She's always going to look out for herself, yet at the same time, she'll certainly look out for people who don't have anyone on their side. Instinctively, she is a little cynical, but not overtly so since that comes from her background in the Haddyn slums. Still looking for a tumbling and a good time, Melaka would be more easy-going and willing to talk about her problems rather than always hiding it in. Being an amnesiac means Melaka would give people a chance.
Writing Sample:
When she woke up and took a look around, she got the idea that this was going to be a bad day. Of course, it wasn't hard to tell from the way the room had been kept, pristine to a fault, all whites all around. It was enough to make her want to dump a bucket of paint and ruin it. In fact, she felt like bouncing off the walls, trying to wrack her brains for answers.
Instead, she did a headstand, hoping things would make more sense. Nope, still all white. Whoever did this room had serious designer issues. But headstanding was fun. She wondered what else her body can do. Slowly, she balanced her body on one hand. Cool. Definitely something to remember for later. With a smooth somersault and landed on the ground, looking around another time. If she couldn't find anything, she could punch the door down. She looked at her fist. Yeah, it looked strong enough. Besides, punching things sounded like fun.
But first, clues. Nothing... nothing... aha! Something on the table. She grabbed it, shaking it up and down for clue. Then she heard something coming from the side. Slowly, she turned the metallic device.
"Get this done. For him. You need to."
A girl with strange hair. Her hair? She twisted the ends of her own, noting the pink ends match the talking girl. It's not that strange. What is strange is what the girl asked her to do. Or what she asked herself to do.
Oh well. She tosses it away without another care. There's no point making a big deal out of it just yet. She cracked her knuckles. Now it's time to get out. She was looking forward to this.
